SC281 - Birthday Balloons

Sketching again!  I liked the layout for Split Coast Stampers Sketch Challenge 281.  I have a whole bunch of Stamping Bella Stamps that I just love, but have not yet inked up so here goes one of 'em!  I also just received a shipment of several pads of patterned paper from Two Peas in a Bucket today so I am itching to start using them!

SC313 - Chicken Humor

Here's my entry for the Split Coast Stampers Sketch Challenge 313.  They say humor is the best medicine and this sentiment and funny little chicken make me laugh!  My copic markers collection is not nearly as large as I'd like it to be (Damn you, Santa!), so I used watercolor crayons to color the chicken.

SC311 - It must be love

I managed to play along with Split Coast Stampers Sketch Challenge # 311 before my family was awake this morning.  I tweaked the design just a bit.  I love adding glitsy glitter to the big ol' rock on her finger.  I colored her in with copics.  I used Papertrey Ink's Basic Backgrounds: Diamonds, of course, to make the patterned paper and I used a white gel pen to add to the design.  Some satin ribbon and a few rhinestones finishes it off!

8.  I have in lived in MA my entire life though I am strangely drawn to North

     Carolina for some unknown reason and think I will end up there some day.

MOJO171 - Sending scoops of love

The Christmas hoopla is over and I am FINALLY able to get back to participating in sketch challenges!  Being snowed in with over a foot of snow makes for some guilt free crafting time.  Here is entry for the Mojo Monday 171 Sketch Challenge.  I tweaked the design a bit to make it work.

Ring o' Recipes

I saw this idea somewhere on Splitcoast Stampers and now I can't find it again to give credit where credit is due.  :(   If I find it, I will update this post.  When I saw it, it was the inspiration for my gift to my co-workers for the Holidays.  I ordered Papertrey Ink's  Recipe Box stamp set,  Recipe Box Label stamp set, and coordinating recipe cards.  I collected a favorite recipe from each co-worker in my department and then made each person a ring o' recipes.   They are stamped with "From the kitchen of" and I filled in the name of the person who submitted that recipe. I bought the rings at Staples and simply tied a ribbon for a finishing touch.  Writing 110 receipes wasn't exactly fun, but the worth the effort!  I also made a couple of these for friends which I presented with a bottle of wine decorated in a coordinating wine wrap and matching tag.

Personalized Note Cards for teachers

One more thing has been checked off my list to do before Christmas!  Last night I made personlized note cards for my kids' teachers.   I used the same lay out for both sets of cards, but they have very different feels to them.  I printed their names using my computer and used the PTI spiral notebook page die to make the "notes."  The first card is from the set I made for my daughter's 3rd grade teacher.  I stayed away from the typical apple theme for her.

Sending warm thoughts your way

This is a card I made for a friend who is going through miserable time right now.  "Sending warm thoughts your way" is the sentiment stamped inside the card.  During the Papertrey Ink blog hop challenge, I saw so many cute tags made with PTI's Warm Happiness Too stamp set, that I decided I had to have it.  So glad I got it and I just love the coordinating die for the cup!

Our Christmas Cards

Last year I tortured myself and made our Christmas cards.  I swore I would NEVER do that again.   I lied.  I did it again.  I have no idea why I did this to myself.  I can barely tolerate the boredom of making a boxed set of 8 cards that are all the same.  Making 100 Christmas cards made me want to stab myself in the eyeball with a fork.  Nonetheless, I completed all of the cards and both eyeballs are intact.  ;)  Photography is another hobby of mine so I look forward to capturing a great shot of my kids each year.  Lauren and Jack's front teeth have finally grown in so they look so much older to me this year than they do in last year's picture.  Sigh.  Lauren is 8 years old and Jack will be 7 next month.  Anyway, since I have neglected my blog all week to make these cards, I thought I would share them you. 

This is the outside of the card.  It's too dark to photograph them in daylight by the time I get home, so it is not the greatest pic.  I mounted the picture on white card stock and then onto Papertrey Ink scarlet jewel card stock.  I cut the triangles in Bazzill Basics Rain Forest card stock and stamped them in PTI fresh snow ink with a stamp from the PTI Polka Dot Basics stamp set.  I printed 2010 from my computer and stamped the border in SU always artichoke ink with a stamp from the PTI Borders and Corners: Circles stamp set.  I punched it out with a 1.5" circle punch and mounted that on a 1.75" circle in scarlet jewel card stock.

And this is the inside of the card!  I had to get our beloved English Yellow Lab "Calvin" in here somewhere!  The sentiment is from PTI's Holiday Wishes Stamp set.  I had a custom stamp made with our names on it.

As a friend of mine said, these cards are a "labor of love" and I hope all the recipients appreciate them!

Holiday Tags

This Papertrey Ink November Blog Hop Challenge is to design a holiday tag or two using all of your favorite goodies.  What could be better than to make some Holiday tags while waiting for the turkey to roast on Thanksgiving Day?!  My Stocking Prints stamp set and coordinating dies are some of my favorite goodies and creating tags couldn't be any easier with the Tage Sale #1 die!  The text from the Background Basics: Christmas stamp set was the perfect backsplash for my stockings! 

I ran the colored card stock (ripe avacado, pure poppy, and scarlet jewel) through my Stampin' Up Square lattice textured impressions embossing folder.  I tore off a corner of the white tag and sponged some chai ink around the edges before adhering it to the colored tag.  The text is stamped in Stampin' Up crumb cake ink.  The stockings are adhered with foam dimensionals for some pop.  Ribbon tied with twine completes the pretty little tags.  Thanks for stopping by and have a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Here's a card I made to participate in the Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge 166.  I sponged the edges of the vintage cream card stock with chocolate chip ink and used the bow easy to make the bow.  Instead of an image, I simply ran the card stock through an embossing folder.   I like the simplicity of it.

I am up for a few sketch challenges this week now that 2 out of my 3 craft fairs are a thing of the past.  Here is my entry for Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge 94.  I always love the results of a card with a circle or an oval shape, but I rarely use them unless I am participating in a sketch challenge.......like this one!

Refrigerator magnets don't have to be tacky!

Get rid of all those tacky but useful magnets on your fridge and replace them with pretty magnets of your own.  They are quick and easy to make and they were a good seller at the craft fair I did today.  I purchased the adhesive magnetic sheet by ProMAG at AC Moore.  I simply ran it through my big shot with my Papertry Ink dies and then layered it with patterned paper. I used foam adhesive between layers to add dimension and added a button embellishment.

More Altered Wine Bottles

One of my best sellers at the craft fair I did this past weekend was my wine bottle lablels and tag set.  I sold out within 45 minutes and I was kicking myself that I hadn't made more.  I am making a bunch for the remaining 2 craft shows I am doing.  You can see my previous "Merry Little Cocktail" label and tag set here.   I also made these fun sets!

I used the Papertrey Ink Tag Sale #1 die to make the tags.  See Maile Belle's blog here for a tutorial on how to tie the ribbon on the tags with twine. 

To make the labels, I cut  the card stock to 6" x11" piece and stamped the background.  I added 5 pieces of red sticky tape to the backs so people can just peel and stick the labels onto the bottle of wine of their choice. 

I used a paper clip to attach the tag to the label.  I had the decorated wine bottles on display and they sold like hot cakes! 

For the "Great minds drink alike" set, I stamped the background on the label with Papertrey Ink's Beautiful Blooms II stamp set onto Papertrey Ink's kraft card stock.   I used Stampin' Up perfect plum and old olive ink.  The wine glass stamp is by Serendipity Stamps.  I stamped it twice and used my Stampin' Up perfect plum marker to color in the wine.  I added some glossy accents to the wine glasses.   I punched them out with a 1.5" circle punch.  Using the PTI Tage Sale #1 die, I made the tag out of PTI plum pudding card stock and added a strip of Stampin Up old olive designer paper.   The sentiment is by Inky Antics.   I added some Stampin' Up old olive ribbon to finish it off. 






HA!  This image makes me laugh every time!  "Wine Princess" is by American Art Stamps."  I colored her in with copics and added some Glossy Accents to her wine glass.  This time I used PTI pure poppyand white and Stampin' up so saffron and basic black to make the tag.  I used PTI Polka Dot Basics stamp set to make the label.  I used Stampin Up summer sunink and stamped onto so saffron card stock.

Flower for a Friend

I inked up my Delightful Dahlia stamp set by Papertrey Ink for the first time tonight.   I stamped the dahlia onto sweet blush card stock and then colored the image with copics and stamped the leaves on simply chartreuse and shaded them with copics as well.   I adhered one of the leaves and the dahlia with foam dimensionals. I used my bow easy to tie that perfect little bow.

I'm back at it making these cute saddle stitch ribbon flowers!  See my previous post here for a link to a tutorial on how to make them.  I went for a pretty neutral card with a nice pop of color using my Papertrey Ink card stock, designer paper, and ribbon.  I sponged some tea dye duo around the edges of the craft card stock.

I have a craft show this weekend and I am trying to have a bunch of cards available to sell on top of the other goodies I have made.  I pulled out my Papertrey Ink Beautiful Blooms II #1 die collection and Framed stamp set to make this card.  I folded the petals up to add dimension.  I used my Bow Easy to make the bow (loving that little tool).  I added a button with baker's twine for an embellishment.

Birthday Card with a Saddle Stitch Ribbon Flower

Well, Papertrey Ink should be thanking Laurie at Soapbox Creations because she will be personally responsible for their sudden spike in saddle stitch ribbon sales!   You can check out Laurie's tutorial on how to make these cute flowers here.  They really are easy to make!  I hand cut some leaves and used a white gel pen to add faux stitching to them to mimic the stitching on the ribbon.

I needed to make a birthday card for my dad this morning so I used Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #92 for my inspiration though I altered the design a bit.  Wishing I had some skinnier brown ribbon to tie that tie, but 5/8" was all I had.

Home Sweet Home

I have been wanting this Papertrey Ink Boards and Beams stamp set for awhile and I finally ordered it.  Last year when I was doing craft fairs, I was asked several times if I had any "new home" cards.  This year I'm prepared!  Here is the first card I've made with my new stamp set.  I used watercolor pencils and a blender pen to color the images.  I cut out the trees and adhered them with foam dimensions.

Snowman Soup

When I saw this cute stamp by High Hopes Rubber Stamps called "Snow Yummy," I thought it would be perfect to make "Snowman Soup!"  I got the mugs for $1 each at the dollar store.  Each mug has 3 Hershey kisses, a packet of cocoa, a candy cane stirring stick, and some marshmallows in a clear cello bag.  I colored the image with copics, cut it out and attached it to the top of the cello bags. I printed the Snowman Soup poem from my computer and added it to the Snowman's mug.   I tied the ribbon around the top of the mug to polish it off!  I think they came out so cute! 

Post It Note Stand & Pen sets

These post it note stands make cute gifts for family, friends, teachers, and co-worker's as well!  I get the 4x6 acrylic frames at the Christmas tree shop for .89 cents and I stock up on post it notes when they are on sale.   Just add a 4.25" x 6.25" piece of patterned paper to the frame, attach a post it note pad with adhesive, add some ribbon, and a sentiment like I did from Papertrey Ink's Take Note stamp set or embellish with a flower.  I get the RSVP pens from Staples.  See my tutorial on skinny notepads  here  to see how how I got the designer paper into the barrel of the pen. I just tied a knot with sheer ribbon around the notepads so I could tuck the pens under to keep them in place for the craft fair, but they can just rest across the top of the post it note pad once at home.  I always remind people to just add some double sided tape to a new post it note pad when this one runs out.

Skinny Notepad Tutorial

These skinny notepads are inexpensive and easy to make and they make nice gifts.  I get these skinny notepads from Papertrey ink.  They cost $6 for a pack of 10. Each pad has 25 sheets.  Here is what you will need to make these:

 
- 5 11/16" x 8 1/4" piece of 
  card stock
-  2 5/8" x 8" piece of 
   designer paper
-  1 3/4" x 3 1/2" piece of
   designer paper
- Papertrey Ink's  
    Take Note stamp set
- 2" scallop circle punch
- 1 3/4" circle punch
- corner rounder
- dimensional adhesive
- ribbon
- skinny notepad
- Pentel R.S.V.P. pen
- adhesive

Score your 5 11/16" x8 8 1/4" card stock at 2 3/4" and 2 15/16"

Fold on the scored lines and then round the corners of your notepad holder

as well as two corners on your 2 5/8" x 8" piece of designer paper. 

I used my corner chomper.

Add adhesive to the back of your notepad.  I used my ATG gun. 

Adhere the notepad right along the 2nd score line of your notepad holder.

 Adhere the 2 5/8" x 8" piece of designer paper to the outside flap. 

Stamp a sentiment from the Take Note Stamp set and punch it out

with a 1 3/4" circle punch.  Adhere that to a 2" scallop circle. 

Adhere to notepad cover with dimensionals. 

Tie a bow with coordinating ribbon around the notepad holder.

Tightly roll the 1 3/4" x 3 1/2" piece of card stock around the ink

and put the ink back into the barrel of the pen.

Tuck the pen under the ribbon to complete!

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challege 91

I took a break from the craft fair crafting to participate in Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #91.   I just happened to receive some Papertrey Ink goodies in the mail today and so here's what I did with them!  That pretty Autumn Abundance patterned paper was the inspiration and the rest of the card fell into place.   I also tried out my new Bow Easy to make that perfect little bow.  It really IS that easy!

I am making a bunch of these bookmarks for an upcoming craft fair.  I used up a bunch of scraps to make these.  I love using the Stampin' Up owl punch to match the paper on the bookmark to the owl's belly.

Dahlia Thank You Card

I have been wanting to order this Delightful Dahlia stamp set by Papertrey Ink for some time, but I was holding off because I don't have as many copic markers as I would like to have to color the lined images of the flowers.  I still don't have the copics I want (insert sighing sound here), but I ordered the stamp set anyway and I am so glad I did!  I think it is so pretty!  I ended up just stamping the image in versa mark on card stock and embossed it in white.  Coloring the image with copics will make this look like a completely different card, but just as pretty.

Altered Wine Bottles

I made these "Have yourself a Merry little cocktail" tags a few weeks ago.  You can see them here.  For an upcoming craft show, I decided I would sell a sets of one of the tags with a coordinating wine bottle label.  Pretty cute, huh?!  I am hoping these will be a hit.  Who doesn't bring a bottle to someone's home at the Holidays?!  Why not decorate them?  I stamped snowflakes on a 6" x 11" piece of card stock and I put strips of double sided tape on the back so customers can peel and stick when they are ready to decorate their own wine bottles.

For the label I use a piece of Papertrey Ink's scarlet jewel card stock and fresh snow ink, and the snowflake trio stamp from Stampin' Up's Christmas Punch stamp set.  I added strips of double sided tape to adhere.

Gift Card Holders Tutorial (version 2)

There are lots of versions of gift card holders that you will find if you surf the net.  I did a tutorial that you can see here on one of my favorite kinds.  This tutorial is on my other favorite kind.   Here is pic of some that I have made. The tutorial is below.

Here is how to make these:

Cut a piece of card into a 4.5" x 6.75" piece.  Score it at 1.75" and 4.5". 

Turn it and score .25" from the edges. 

Now cut off all of the .25" section that you scored

except for the sections along side the 1.75" section.

These will be the flaps to make the pocket in which the gift card will sit.

Fold the .25" sections inward, apply adhesive to the backs of them,

and then fold the 1.75" section up to create the pocket.

Apply a 1/2" x 4" decorative strip of designer paper  to the edge of the pocket.

Round the corners of your flap for a more polished look.  I used my corner chomper.

Add a 1.25" x 4" decorative strip of designer paper to outside of the flap.

Lay out a strip of matching ribbon as shown above (approx. 10") and apply adhesive as shown.  This will make tying the ribbon much easier as it keeps the ribbon in place. Then close the flap.

I like to add a little more adhesive on the front

to keep that ribbon nice and snug.

Tie your ribbon into a knot or bow.

Cut a velcro dot in half.  I stick the halves together and then close the flap

so I don't have to worry about trying to line things up correctly.

I used a 1 3/4" scallop circle punch

and 1 1/2" circle punch to make this embellishment. 

I used Papertrey Ink's Border's and Corners Circle Stamp Set 

as well as a sentiment from Stampin' Up's Vintage Labels stamps set.

Attach the Hapy Birthday embellishment and you're done!
